Universal Data Mover Gateway 2.0.x - Overview
Overview
UDMG (Universal Data Mover Gateway) is a business-to-business MFT (Managed File Transfer) Solution.
MFT refers to software and services that manage the secure transfer of data from one computer to another through a network (e.g., the Internet). UDMG provides the capabilities to securely manage File transfers with external business partners (i.e. Customers or Suppliers), and between any endpoint in today’s Hybrid-IT infrastructure, on-premises, or in the cloud (public and or private).
Managed File Transfer is part of Workload Automation because it’s the only way you’ll get a single view of the activities you automate that support your business.
It’s not managed until you have visibility of the whole business process from file creation to file consumption.
Components and Platforms
Universal Data Mover Gateway comprises the:
- UDMG Agent Proxy (Server and Client)
- UDMG Server
- UDMG Authentication Proxy
- UDMG Admin UI
- UDMG Web Transfer Client
UDMG Agent Proxy
The Agent Proxy acts as a reverse proxy to hide the internal UDMG server from the outside. It also ensures that no data is stored in the DMZ.
A Partner connects to the Agent Proxy to upload and download files to their virtual folders. “Virtual” because the folders are mapped to “real” folders on the UDMG Server. The UDMG Server hosts the Virtual Local Servers. For each Business Partner and Protocol, a dedicated virtual server can be setup.
UDMG Server
The physical files are proxied to the in / out directory of the UDMG Server. New Files on the UDMG Server can be identified using a “classical file monitor” or via the new Universal “Event” Monitor. Each time a file transfer action occurs an Event is generated, which can be used to trigger the Universal “Event” Monitor. UDMG provides the UDMG server for FTP(S), SFTP, PeSIT, and HTTP(S) protocols.
UDMG Authentication Proxy
The UDMG Authentication Proxy enables the authentication and authorization of the UDMG Admin UI users through the REST API of the UDMG Server. It provides a token mechanism to maintain the authenticated connection for a period of time. It is capable to use an LDAP Service to authenticate users and synchronize them with the UDMG Server. It is also capable to use Single Sign-On (SSO) identity providers with SAML, OpenID, or OAuth.
UDMG Admin UI
The configuration of the Business Partner and virtual server are done via the UDMG Admin UI, where you can configure:
- The Virtual Server IP & Protocol
- The In and out directory of each virtual server
- Virtual Folders
- Certificates
- Rules
- Partners
- etc.
UDMG Web Transfer Client
The integrated web file transfer client enables the ad-hoc exchange of files with partner users with a web interface. The users and file transfers are managed from the UDMG Admin UI.
See UDMG Installation Instructions for information on the prerequisites of all UDMG components.
